Overview
The Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) is an objective method of assessing one’s level of consciousness using 3 domains: eye opening, verbal responses, and motor responses. When measuring the GCS, we take the side with the best score.
GCS scores are generally expressed as: “GCS = 15, M6 V5 E4 at 16:30”.
*For the motor response to be considered ‘localising’, the arm must be brought above the clavicle. If not, it should be scored as ‘flexing‘.
