Seizures
Overview
All patients that have had a seizure must stop driving and inform the DVLA
- First/unprovoked/isolated seizure:
- No driving for 6 months if there is no abnormality on imaging/EEG
- No driving for 12 months if the above does not apply
- Established epilepsy/multiple unprovoked seizures:
- May drive if they have been seizure-free for 12 months
- Anti-epilepsy medication is being withdrawn:
- Do not drive during withdrawal and for 6 months after the last dose
Stroke
Overview
- Stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA):
- If no residual defect, then 1 month off driving + may not need to inform DVLA
- Multiple TIAs over a short time:
- No driving for 3 months
