Overview
Parainfluenza describes a group of viruses that tend to cause upper respiratory infections, however, in people who are immunocompromised, they can cause severe pneumonia.
It is associated with the development of croup in children aged 6 months to 3 years, which is the inflammation of the larynx and upper trachea, resulting in inspiratory stridor and a barking cough.
