Overview
Patients with any of the following features should be referred using a suspected cancer pathway (2-week wait) for assessment.
Laryngeal cancer
Red-flag features are:
- Persistent unexplained hoarseness
- Unexplained lumps in the neck
Oral cancer
- Red-flag features are:
- Unexplained ulcers in the oral cavity lasting >3 weeks
- Persistent and unexplained lumps in the neck
- Consider a suspected cancer pathway referral to a dentist if any of the following are present:
- A lump on the lip or in the oral cavity or
- Red or red and white patches consistent with erythroplakia or erythroleukoplakia
Thyroid cancer
- Red-flag features are:
- Unexplained thyroid lump
