Overview
Folliculitis describes a bacterial infection of hair follicles, usually due to Staphylococcus aureus. In most cases it is self-limiting, however, in people with immunosuppression, it can lead to more severe symptoms. Some causes include some methods of hair removal (e.g. shaving or waxing) and jacuzzis (‘hot tub folliculitis’).
Features include pruritic, papules/pustules around follicles on the face, trunk, or extremities. They may be tender.
