Cautions and contraindications
Vaccination is contraindicated if any of the following apply:
- Anaphylaxis to a previous dose of a vaccine containing the same antigen
- Anaphylaxis to another component contained within the vaccine (e.g. egg proteins)
Live vaccines are contraindicated if any of the following apply:
- Pregnancy
- Immunosuppression
Immunisation Schedule
Overview
- At birth:
- BCG vaccine for tuberculosis (TB) if any of the following apply:
- Infants in areas where incidence is ≥40/100,000
- Infants with a parent or grandparent born in a high-incidence country
- TB in the family in the past 6 months
- BCG vaccine for tuberculosis (TB) if any of the following apply:
- 2 months:
- 6-in-1 vaccine: diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae B (Hib), and hepatitis B (DTPPHH)
- Oral rotavirus vaccine
- Meningitis B
- 3 months:
- 6-in-1 vaccine: diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae B (Hib), and hepatitis B (DTPPHH)
- Oral rotavirus vaccine
- Pneumococcal vaccine (PCV)
- 4 months:
- 6-in-1 vaccine: diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis Haemophilus influenzae B (Hib), and hepatitis B (DTPPHH)
- Meningitis B
- 12 months:
- Hib
- Meningitis B
- Meningitis C
- PCV
- Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR)
- 2-8 years:
- Annual influenza vaccine
- 3-4 years:
- 4-in-1 pre-school booster: diphtheria, tetanus, polio, and pertussis (DTPP)
- MMR
- 12-13 years:
- HPV vaccine – in both boys and girls
- 13-18 years:
- 3-in-1 teenage booster: tetanus, diphtheria, and polio (DTP)
- Meningitis ACWY
- 18 to 25-year-old students:
- Should contact their GP for the meningitis ACWY vaccine if they have not already had it
